  Prologue

  Thursday, Oct 1, 2020

Missy signed out that morning on yet another authorized absence. She had explained to Lieutenant Brainard that General Blake wanted her for a top-secret requirement which was likely to take a couple of days. (Since the general considered all her full moon celebrations to be top-secret requirements, this was true.) Since that would run into the weekend, the lieutenant had agreed she should sign out until Sunday evening.

She had discussed this requirement with him several days earlier, which he had appreciated. She had also told him during that conversation how the agency she could not name had recovered all the files, videos and photos which Finley had uploaded to Charles Cannon. There was now very little risk of any scandal for the Naval Academy over any of this. More importantly, he could assure all the other girls not to worry. Understandably, there had been a lot of concern ever since the distressing news that cameras had been found in the locker room.

After checking in as Melissa Smith at the now familiar hotel downtown, she had teleported up to the Missy Mansion. (She was finally getting used to that name for her home since her entire pack and all her friends kept insisting on calling it that.)

In addition to the usual meetings with Fred and Anya, Mark and Alice, visiting Alphas, and various pack members, she also had arranged for Lisa and Marie to be there. This was their first time meeting with her pack and witnessing a full moon celebration. This was the Harvest Moon and, like most autumn full moons when the weather was clear, it would be providing a very full looking moon near the horizon right after sunset. Mother Nature was cooperating to make the event memorable.

During their private meeting with Missy and Mike, the girls took turns explaining how their cyber spying was going. First, they covered the Mid-East which, thankfully, was going well and their Intel was enabling General Blake to handle WIJO, the Taliban, the Iranians, and all the other dissident militant groups over there.

Then they switched to how things were going back home in the U.S. There were a lot of phones infected with the Missy virus now. Those phones then infected any new computers. Etc.

Lisa said, “Alexa Neth and Bayley Rappucci have gone their separate ways after leaving the academy. They have not kept in touch. Alexa has managed to get accepted as a freshman at a local college, in spite of missing the first few weeks. Her wealthy parents pulled a few strings.”

“And Bayley is working as a salesclerk in a clothing store,” said Marie. “Her family doesn’t have any money and she’s living at home with them. She’ll maybe apply to a state school next year. Neither of them realizes you had anything to do with their being kicked out and they blame Finley and Grant for that.”

“And what about Finley and Grant?” asked Missy. “After they left, I started hearing how they’d been taking advantage of some plebe girls. They deserve to be punished for what they did.”

Lisa laughed and said, “Yeah, that’s what Marie said. She’s been messing with them big time. Don’t worry. Now that you’re telling us about those plebe girls?” She looked over at Marie, who was wearing an evil grin. “Rest assured, both those guys will eventually get what they deserve. They won’t be taking advantage of any more girls ever again … we have our ways!”

Mike asked, “What’s happening with Charles Cannon?”

“I heard his wife is already filing for divorce,” said Missy. “The girls on the soccer team are all talking about that. They don’t even know he was behind the cyber-attacks at the academy and how Finley was sending him those videos.”

Marie said, “The FBI has a solid case. Since Charles isn’t willing to testify against anyone else, he’ll end up serving several years for his illegal gambling operation. The Baltimore office still believes he was working for some organization but since he’s not talking, they have other priorities. Ed Collinsworth has asked them to bury everything related to the Naval Academy. He’s assured them our office has handled that.”

“That’s good,” agreed Missy. “What about the Bruno Halloran organization?”

“Ooh, he totally hates you, Missy,” explained Lisa. “After you left, we trashed a few more computers and fried a couple of phones. Then, on Monday, just so he really got the message, we stole a million dollars from one of his accounts. We gave it back the next day, though. We sent him an anonymous message. It said, ‘Don’t mess with Missy McCrea or next time the money won’t be returned’. We included that photo of you when you won the Mixed Martial
Arts trophy, just to make sure he understood the message.”

Missy laughed and said, “You didn’t really do all that, did you?”

Marie said, “Yes we did. And, we’ll keep on messing with him and his entire organization. Did Lisa tell you how many hours we spent finding out he was the one with those videos of you?”

“Actually,” said Missy with a big grin, “Lisa says you two got so distracted watching so much porn you almost forgot to call me.”

“Very funny. We’ll try to keep Bruno so busy he won’t have time for any revenge plots against you. If he ever does decide to plan anything, of course, we should be able to find that out and we’ll let you know.”

  -----

Eventually, darkness dropped down and the moon rose up high in the sky. As predicted, it was a clear night. Missy’s meetings were over and her pack members began Shifting into their wolf forms. Missy stripped naked, kissed Mike, gave him her clothes, waved goodbye to everyone there who was not going on the run, and Changed. Then her mountain lion could be seen racing off into the night with a huge pack of wolves chasing right behind.

  Chapter One

  Sunday, Oct 4, 2020

It was just prior to nineteen hundred hours when Missy signed back in at the Naval Academy, just like everyone else who’d been signed out for the weekend. She had enjoyed those two extra days which Lieutenant Brainard had agreed she could take for her top-secret requirement.

She made her way to her room and found Maddy there, waiting for her. Since her return was exactly when she’d promised Maddy it would be, there was no drama this time. She announced, “Your country is safe. I have returned.”

Maddy shook her head and said, “What’s scary is knowing you’re not just joking about that and whatever you’re doing on these secret missions you keep going on might actually be necessary for protecting our country.” She sighed. “You always tell me not to worry but if it’s important enough that a four-star general has to send for you, I can’t stop thinking you might not get to come back.”

“Hey, General Blake wants me to be here,” explained Missy. “I’m going to graduate in two years and be commissioned as an officer. He’s very happy about that and believes it’s what’s best.”

“Okay, but then why does he keep needing you for stuff now?”

“You know that’s classified and I can’t explain what I’m doing,” said Missy. “But, as I’ve said before, that does not mean there’s any danger. Each requirement will usually only be a day or two.”

‘Uhm, yeah. Right. And the operative word in that statement is usually.” Maddy shrugged her shoulders. “Okay. But those medals you have on your uniform mean there were times when you definitely did face danger. Shit, Missy. You jumped out of airplanes into combat. You got shot. And, now that I’ve gotten to know you, I know you’ll go in harm’s way again if you believe that’s necessary. Am I wrong?”

“Geez, Maddy! I have these conversations with my boyfriend Mike. I don’t want to have them with you.”

“Am I wrong? Tell me the truth. You always say you’ll never lie to me.”

Missy rolled her eyes and said, “Not exactly. But there are things about me which mitigate the risks. Okay? And, since I’ve just mentioned Mike, he knows those things. So, he accepts my doing what I do and what I’m asked to do.”

Maddy knew she wasn’t going to get any more out of Missy on that subject. “Sooo … you and Mike. You told me you’ve been with him for more than three years now.” She had definitely been impressed with finally meeting him two weeks earlier.

Missy could sense where this might be going. Maddy had recently started a relationship with Cole Nash, a firstie at the academy. “Yes, he’s my soulmate. He and I share a special bond and that’s one of those things about me which has mitigated risks.” Realizing how that probably sounded, she added, “Our bond enhances my special abilities.” Then she realized that statement wasn’t helping.

But Maddy wasn’t focusing on what Missy was explaining. She was thinking about herself and Cole. She said, “You have been pretty open about how you and he have been having sex. When did you know he was the one for you?”

Missy knew Maddy was still a virgin and asked, “Has Cole been pressuring you to have sex with him?”

“No, no!” Maddy began blushing. “But I sure want him to. I mean … even if we don’t end up together later? Well, I think I’m ready. For sex. I know we’ve only been dating for a few weeks, but ... well. How was it when you and Mike started having sex?”

Missy grinned. They spent the next hour discussing things that had nothing to do with any of her supernatural abilities or her Special Forces assignments. No, Maddy was looking for some relationship advice. While Missy did not consider herself one to give such advice, she had experienced life enough and had seen how others had coped with their relationship concerns. So, she was honest and shared what she could share. It was a big decision for Maddy and one which she, and she alone, would need to make.

Annette Abruzzo returned to her room after she and Mallory Benton signed back in. They’d been out again with Damon and Gunnar. The guys had picked them up that morning and had spent the day showing them a good time. Then they’d dropped them off right on time, no problem. Mallory had jokingly threatened them by saying she’d call an Uber otherwise. She’d declared there was no way they’d risk being late for guys they’d only recently started dating.

Nettie’s roommate Lucinda Ogleville looked up and said, “There you are. How did it go?” Nettie had been pretty drunk the night before and had obviously had a few drinks today, so Lucinda wasn’t sure what to expect. She and Nettie were not that close but Nettie had talked that morning about the great guys she and Mallory were spending the day with.

“Best day ever!” exclaimed Nettie, obviously in a great mood. “They have access to this incredible condo right on the ocean. During the week, of course, they’re in classes at Johns Hopkins University and have rooms up there but they come down here for most weekends.” She and Mallory had been very impressed when their handsome, hunky “bad boys” (based on first impressions when the guys had approached them Saturday night at a local club) had turned out to be super rich college guys and seemed so interested in dating them. “We mostly spent the day right there. We walked on the beach, had takeout meals delivered, watched a couple movies, had a few beers … you know … just a great day!”

With Missy away plus Maddy and Caitlin being busy with their boyfriends, Nettie and Mallory had been sitting at that club all by themselves, complaining about the lack of any decent guys for them to date. That had all changed when Damon and Gunnar had suddenly approached them.

“So, this condo … did you end up in one of the bedrooms with Damon?” Lucinda loved teasing Nettie, who was somewhat inexperienced when it came to boys.

“Well, actually, no. He and I made out on the living room couch while Mallory and Gunnar used the bedroom. Only, she wasn’t having sex with him in there. Like me, she only made out with him for a little while. We’re both taking it slow.”

“Well, that’s good, I guess,” agreed Lucinda. “My roommate last semester had to drop out after getting pregnant.”

“That is not happening with me or Mallory!” exclaimed Nettie, annoyed at the implication. “We have each other’s back and we always make sure things only go as far as we want them to go. We’re also making sure to stay sober enough to have safe sex should either of us want things to go that far.”

“Well, again I say, that’s good!” Lucinda grinned and, knowing she could get a further rise out of Nettie, she added, “Of course, since you and Mallory are such good friends with that Army slut, I suppose you’ve both learned all about letting things go that far.”

Nettie glared at her roommate and said, “We’ve talked about this. Missy McCrea is not a slut. Either that naked video of her was a fake, like most people are saying, or else she was a victim and had no idea she was being filmed.” Being one of
Missy’s friends, she knew the latter situation was the truth. However, Missy’s friends were all spreading the rumor that the video which everyone on the football team had received had been photoshopped. Since that video had mysteriously vanished from all the computers which had received it and no other photos or videos had been showing up, the whole incident about finding cameras in the women’s locker room was no longer getting much attention.

Lucinda chuckled. “Okay, okay. Don’t get your panties in a twist. That’s assuming you still have your panties … you didn’t let Damon keep them after making out on that couch all afternoon, did you?”

“Very funny, very funny,” said Nettie, exasperated. “You’re impossible. I’m gonna ignore all further questions and comments since you obviously are only interested in teasing me.”

  -----

Somewhat later, after driving up to Baltimore, Damon and Gunnar were ushered into Billy Rosario’s home office. After giving him a full report on their entertaining the two Navy girls all weekend, they waited for his inevitable questions. They had been provided with that condo after finding these two specific girls and successfully getting them to go out with them.

Billy had learned from his source at the Naval Academy who worked in the kitchen that Nettie and Mallory were two of Missy McCrea’s friends. They were in the same company and often sat together during meals. Since neither girl seemed to have any boyfriend, Billy had arranged for Damon and Gunnar to seek them out. So far, that plan had gone well. He had promised Bruno he’d get some college guys who could be trusted and who could get them some inside information on Missy. His spy in the kitchen could only find out so much, after all.
